Take them from your garden and put them in pots, keep them in a sunny window and water sparingly, next spring plant in garden and repeat the process.
How do you overwinter geraniums from the garden?
my parents do exactly what Acey says except they do not apply water at all and they come back. They have huge geraniums.
Reply:Bring them into the house and take cuttings.
Reply:either take cuttings and over winter in house ,or keep the plants in slightly moist compost in your shed .

Cuttings taken and potted and put in a warm, sunny place (like a baywindow or windowsill) can work, too.
Reply:If they are growing in pots...
cut them down to a couple of inches making sure the top is still green, ( you can use what you cut off to grow cuttings)
Place them in a greenhouse/shed/outhouse or indoors.. they do not need heat, just somewhere frost free.
do not be tempted to overwater. they need very little as they will be dormant in the winter.( unless they are somewhere very warm , in which case they will carry on growing)
If the plants are growing directly in the ground.. pot them before following the above.
watch out for mildew and remove leaves at the first signs.
re plant in the garden in the spring/early summer when there is no danger of frost.
Reply:I assume you're talking about Garden Geranium's. A technique we were taught in school (although I've never tried it because I thought the professor was mad) is to pull them out in the fall, shake the soil off the roots, take the plants into a cool basement, cellar, semi-heated garage and hang them upside down in the rafters. You must not forget to take them down a few times over the winter and soak the roots in water for a bit (then hang them back up). Sound crazy, huh? Let me know if it works.. oh and I assume you just pop them back into pots with some soil in the spring then cross your fingers.. OR just take cuttings (geraniums are pretty easy to root with some rooting hormone) and grow them through the winter... Good luck.

Reply:Always take my geraniums inside for the winter and they keep growing in a sunny window. When warmer weather permits i take them out side again so my neighbors can see a beautiful display of growth
Reply:put them in the greenhouse and water spareingly keep frost free
Reply:I use these plants outdoors during the summer and my way of storing them over the winter is to cut the top half of the plant away. Take all the remaining leaves off the plants. Shake all the soil off the roots. Wrap each in a sheet of news paper and store in a cool dark place frost free. On the 1st of January:- I take them out and pot them up in 3inch pots, you will find that some have began to have green shoots in a day or two. So you are only having plants form early Jan instead of right through the winter. If your not sure try it with just some of them one season. Good Luck.
