How do you grow a good sized cutting without killing it lol?

OMG how do you grow geranium cuttings without killing them?
cut a piece of geranium stem with several leaves, remove the lower two leaves,


put the cutting on a table without any water


this is a very important step, the cutting needs to callus and the end needs to dry thoroughly prior to being planted or placed in water.


after the cutting has dried for at least a couple of hours, lightly dust the cut end with rooting hormone and place in water


do not let any leaves be submerged


if you don't have rooting hormone just place the cutting in water after it has dried for several hours


place in a window that gets bright indirect light


plant when roots are 2 inches long





EDIT- as someone who has taken 500 cuttings every morning for weeks I do recommend the air callusing because it reduces the incidence of rot and when a home gardener has only a few plants to take cuttings from you don't want to run the risk of letting even one of your babies rot.

Reply:New growth cutting will root in water in 5-7 days. Sorry Fluff, you don't have to let cuttings dry - cut, to water immediately. Change the water if it gets cloudy.





Grape leaf geraniums won't root in water, must use rootone, place in damp potting soil.
