Can I plant a geranium into the ground?

All Day Long! Geraniums like good drainage, and they like to become almost dry in between waterings.

Can I plant a geranium into the ground?
Yes during the spring (after the last freeze) til late fall (until the 1st freeze) depending where you live. I love to do container plants that allows me to move them through out the yard and I can bring them in during the winter. Good Luck.... with your wonderful plant!!!
Reply:By geranium I take it you mean pelargonium . . . . . and the answer depends on where you live!

Many places in the world the answer is a big yes, and as long as you get no bad frosts you can leave them in over winter too.

For summer, once the plant is established well in the ground then no watering will be needed. Best to use small plants to begin with, they establish really well and grow quickly when they are happy.

My Mum, in Devon in the UK west country, has many geraniums that she's left in the ground for years on end, and some grow to 5' high in the summer because they are so well established and don't get killed back too badly in the winter!
Reply:Yes, but if you do, you will need to remember to water it.
Reply:yes, i have heaps in the ground.

2 main varieties - ivy pelargonian - glossy leaves, thinner stem = great for hangong baskets or trailing.

zonal pelargonian = traditional geranium - great for the ground, hardy plant, drought resistant
