"Trailing Geraniums", "Climbing Geraniums" are all IVY Geraniums. They are actually Pelargoniums. But we ALL call them Geraniums. I have seen Ivy Geraniums climb if they have some support. But it always seems accidental. I don't know if you could really train them to go where you want.
Has anyone ever come across a climbing geranium.? My friend inherited one when she moved house.?
It's called an ivy geranium, I think that's what you mean. Take care of it just like a regular one, they will spread to several times thier size. they look great in hanging baskets and will droop to about two feet.

I planted 4 little guys ( 6 inch pot ) in a a 6x6 foot area. 3 years later I was trimming the sides off. The area had a lot of rocks and the dirt is as hard as a rock, but they seem happy. They only get about 3 hours of direct sun in the afternoon and I only water them once or twice a week. Geraniums are very hardy and grow easily and fast.

Geraniums are very tolerant. Actually you could cut it down almost to the dirt, and it would come back.

What should I do when my geranium cuttings start to turn yellow please?
You should keep them in water until roots have begun to grow - so if your yellowing ones are potted up take them out, trim the end of the stem, remove seriously yellowed leaves, and put them in water. When roots have developed pot them again, if no roots develop within 2-3 weeks then discard. Healthy geranium cuttings are generally almost 100% success rate, but the yellowing suggests you might be better off starting again with fresh cuttings if you can.

Sugar in the water might help. Vitamin B complex might help.
Salt in the water won't help.
Some plants root best if put in a damp medium such as peat moss or perlite. When roots form, do not try to remove the rooting medium, just place the soil with embedded roots into a more permanent pot. Roots need air too, so drowning them in water or very wet soil can kill even healthy roots.
Cacti have weak, sensitive roots that rot easily but I rooted a broken piece in damp perlite in a month or so.
The biggest mistake people make is "loving their plants to death" by giving them too much water or too much fertilizer. Too much of a good thing is not good.

iIVE HAD THEM WINTER OVER IN THE HOUSE UNTIL FOLLOWING YEAR......BUT IF YOU CAN ALSO JUST SAVE THE OLD DEAD FLOWER AS YOU DO WITH OTHER ANNUAL PLANTS THAT WOULD BE GREAT....THANKS

It just means they are suffering from stress. Thsi usually happens in autumn as the temperature drops and the plant begins to shut down but I expect it's just a bit of a shock if they're just been put outdoors. They should get over it, make sure they don't stay too wet.

cut a piece of geranium stem with several leaves, remove the lower two leaves,
put the cutting on a table without any water
this is a very important step, the cutting needs to callus and the end needs to dry thoroughly prior to being planted or placed in water.
after the cutting has dried for at least a couple of hours, lightly dust the cut end with rooting hormone and place in water
do not let any leaves be submerged
if you don't have rooting hormone just place the cutting in water after it has dried for several hours
place in a window that gets bright indirect light
plant when roots are 2 inches long
EDIT- as someone who has taken 500 cuttings every morning for weeks I do recommend the air callusing because it reduces the incidence of rot and when a home gardener has only a few plants to take cuttings from you don't want to run the risk of letting even one of your babies rot.
use a sharp knife also. fluff

I just stick them in moist soil - but not soaking. They usually root in about a week or two--but don't peak in the soil because you may dislodge the new little root hairs. Make sure you keep off any little flower buds so that all the stimulation is going to growing roots. After you get the knack, you'll find geranium propagation to be a breeze. Good luck!

an alternative method would be to take a cutting, put it in a bottle of water and allow it to root. this works best if you use something like the bottom of a plastic liter bottle. when the geranium begins to root you can add a little bit of soil to the container. gradually add more and more. eventually you cutting will be growing in soil, though it was rooted in water.

Cut off the old "dead" stems.. back to the green that's putting out. Lots of tender loving care.. and not too much water! The plant should continue to put on new foliage.. good luck

I don't know how to keep it alive.....I do water it so it's not that! Please help. The plant is called Willamena and as it has a name, I'd be commiting an offence if it died.

When it starts warming in the spring I bring it out to the warm sun, but wait until the last freeze to leave it out. Greaniums are heat loving plants, and a freeze will kill them.

Put the plant and pot in a cool dry shaded place inside the house (cellar is good) and keep the soil just moist until spring.

If it is small enough then bring it indoors and treat as a house plant until spring.
Also take some cuttings. Just take a sharp knife and cut about 2 inches, (5cm) off a green shoot, remove the lower leaves and any flower and just put it into a pot of compost. Dampen with some water and stand on your window sill. They grow really easily and I can almost guarantee that the cuttings will survive.

Give it as much sun as you can because they will not thrive without plenty of light. They do go somewhat dormant in winter. Their thick stems store moisture sometwhat like succulents, so overwatering is very bad for geraniums. I have found if you cut them back below the bottom leaves, they will not regrow new leaves.

Why won't my geranium bloom?
Since you didn't tell us whether you are growing these indoors, oufoors in containers, or in beds outdoors, I think making sure they are properly planted is a good start.
Also remember that the Regal and the Martha Washington are genetically engineered for indoor planting. If you have one of these and are attempting to grow one of them outdoors, this may be your problem.
Growing Geraniums In Beds
To plant geraniums outdoors, you must wait until all threat of frost has passed. Pick a spot that is sheltered from strong winds and gets at least 6 hours of sun a day. The soil should be well drained and mildly acidic (pH of 6.5 is ideal). Geraniums need fertilization for best growth and they thrive in beds that have a good supply of nitrogen. Before planting, apply a 5-10-5 fertilizer to the soil. After planting, you should fertilize every month with a 10-10-10 fertilizer. Mulch the area and water at least once a week.
Growing In Planters Outdoors
Geraniums can be grown in planters on the porch, patio or garden. The ivy type geraniums are great for hanging baskets and window boxes. Make sure you use a container that is big enough for the plant or it will wilt (you may need to replant to prevent wilting as the plant grows). To combat most disease, remove all leaves that are infected, make sure you do not take cuttings from any plant with disease. When watering make sure you do not splash the leaves.

Caterpillars - some caterpillars like to much on geraniums (perhaps they have heard of it’s medicinal properties?). These can be controlled with sprays.
Aphids - try controlling aphids with ladybugs or a special spray.

Considering it is planted correctly then try to "deadhead" the plant. Take the old growth off the top and it should "double-out". I winter mine in the house and "deadhead" them every spring, right after planting them.

I have both plants, the geranium is really very hardy, but the gardenia needs a little more tlc.
I seen miniature geranium and gardenias,do they bloom as good as regular sizes?
The miniature geraniums or gardenias, if taken cared of following the care instructions, will bloom as well as the regular sized geraniums or gardenias. Usually, the miniatures are designed as gifts. When they've outgrown their container, these plants should either be transferred to bigger pots or planted in the garden. For these plant to thrive, provide the following conditions:
Indoors - bright light but not direct sun, keep the soil moist but not soggy, fertilize at regular intervals;
Outdoors:
-Full sun, with some shading in the summer (in the hottest areas)
- An acid soil with a pH between 5 and 6
- Keep the soil moist, but never soggy
- Humidity
- Cool night temperatures

Make sure it is kept in a spot where it will get some sunlight (though preferably not full sun) and keep the soil moist, maybe water once or twice a week, and use some plant feed every month. (there are many different sorts you can buy that will do the trick.)

Geraniums like to be well fed, so you should fertilize them with an all purpose 10-10-10 liquid plant food every 2-3 weeks when they actively growing. Remove the flowers promptly as they fade, or the bloom production will decline.
Most bedding plant geraniums are seed grown, and this is an excellent way to aquire different varieties. For the home gardener who wishes to keep a certain variety alive, geraniums will root easily from stem cuttings. Take cuttings in September from healthy plants which have been kept rather dry for a couple weeks. Use a clean, sharp knife and make a cutting 3 to 4 inches in length from the growing tips. Trim off the lower leaves from the cutting, and stick it into a coarse, sandy medium in a small pots or in flats, and water well. Place them in indirect light. Do not allow the cuttings to dry out. After roots are formed, move the new plants into full sun and water only enough to keep them from shriveling. Fertilize with a weak solution of liquid fertilizer every two weeks.

Geraniums need to be deadheaded to promote new growth. Simply snap the stem back to the base once the bloom fades. They enjoy LOTS of sun so skip the shade. Feed every other week with a combination of plant food and epsoms salts, using 1 tablespoon of each for each gallon of water.

Absolutely they can be overwintered. You can also take cuttings and plant them (I have put them in water a few days to start the roots...but do not keep them in water or they will rot).

When a new plant is identified the scientist who discovers it will spend a long time debating with other scientists about which genus it is in, but he gets to choose the species name. Species which have been known for a very very long time were given their latin names by Linnaeus and other founders of the binomial naming system.
The latin name of the rose geranium is Pelargonium graveolens. It is not technically a Geranium, which is a different genus, but Pelargonia are generally called Geranium by gardeners, as that is the category which scientists used to put them in. Graveolens is latin for 'heavy-smelling' apparently!
If you look any living organism up in Wikipedia it will often tell you who named it. The person's surname will appear in the box in the top right hand corner, next to the species name, in little black letters. P. graveolens isn't recorded there but Pelargonium genus was named by Charles Louis L'Héritier de Brutelle.

Geraniums can't take frost. If the nights have been really cold, you might want to bring them inside.
