Has anyone ever come across a climbing geranium.? My friend inherited one when she moved house.?

"Trailing Geraniums", "Climbing Geraniums" are all IVY Geraniums. They are actually Pelargoniums. But we ALL call them Geraniums. I have seen Ivy Geraniums climb if they have some support. But it always seems accidental. I don't know if you could really train them to go where you want.

It's called an ivy geranium, I think that's what you mean. Take care of it just like a regular one, they will spread to several times thier size. they look great in hanging baskets and will droop to about two feet.
Reply:i knew you could get trailing geraniums but not climbers!

unless it's the same thing. tell your friend good luck with it, I'm sooo jealous!!!
Reply:Yes I had one , the blooming thing wouldn't stay in it's pot

, I lost count of how many times I had to get it down from the curtains LOL

How do I kill creeping charlie (wild geranium in these parts)? It drinks Killex and laughs at dethatching.?

Alas, poor Yorick!

You must remove these delightful beauties by hand! Make sure to get them before they bloom and dispose of all weeds in a plastic bag--they will make seeds even after being pulled!

How long does it take for a geranium plant to grow?

I planted 4 little guys ( 6 inch pot ) in a a 6x6 foot area. 3 years later I was trimming the sides off. The area had a lot of rocks and the dirt is as hard as a rock, but they seem happy. They only get about 3 hours of direct sun in the afternoon and I only water them once or twice a week. Geraniums are very hardy and grow easily and fast.

MY FAVORITE!

how big is it?

mine are getting big in a mostly morning sun spot on my front lawn area, make sure you have lots of water for them.
Reply:Mine grow great and have constant blooms with bi-weekly use of Miracle grow.

PS: I have notice my red ones grow faster than the pink.
Reply:reach full growth 8 years
Reply:It hard to say. It matters where it is kept the room temperature how often you water it and how fertile th soil is.

For it to germinate i would say 3 - 14 days to start to shoot up about 15 - 18 days and then about 25 - 40 to grow quite a reasonable height.

It should say on the pack of seeds.

To grow to full height you're saying about 7- 9 years.

What kinds of pigment are present in Geranium leafs?

thanks

What kinds of pigment are present in Geranium leafs?
Chlorophyll and Xanthophyll both.
Reply:Mostly chlorophyll, but also xanthophylls--they're the yellow pigments which show up when the chlorophyll fades at the end of the growing season.

How much of a 5 yr. established geranium that's about 3ft.by3 may i prune w/out shocking it?

It's not really flowering right now so i thought i'd prune it. i'm thinking 1/4 to 1/3 of it. They're very hardy but i've had some idiots severely butcher them and kill them.

Geraniums are very tolerant. Actually you could cut it down almost to the dirt, and it would come back.
Reply:ed is correct but i would give it a prune of about a third and some fertiliser and it will be right

how much water?

Yes definitely fertilize once a week. You can use liquid fertilizer or they sell fertilizer that you put in once for the entire season (they are time released) Depending if they are in full sun and how hot depends how much you water. In pots, I would water every day--You don't want them to dry out completely. Also remember that when a flower blooms then dies, make sure you cut it off-- that will make it so that the energy is left to produce new blooms.
Reply:Yes they Like Fertilizer it gives them more and Stronger Blooms. I suppose Miracle Gro will do nicely as Fertilizer, use between now and September every Week. When you think it is starting to dry out put Water in it. I would say about a Pint of Water per Plant. I had Hanging Geraniums one Year very nice Plants.
Reply:yesmthey need alittle sun, morning is best water when competly dry i use miracle grow time release.

Why are the leaves on my geranium flower turning yellow?

i have always heard to pull off the leaves when they turn yellow and new ones will grow back. well, i have plenty of flower blooms, but no leaves, and it doesn't look like any new leaves are coming in. any suggestions?

Why are the leaves on my geranium flower turning yellow?
It could be you have been over-watering or perhaps you over-fertilized and burned the leaves.
Reply:check the soil and the roots of the plants. Two problems, one too much water, two bugs. if the soil is too wet let it dry out some before watering again. If its bugs there are several products on the market. Also the nitrogen in the soil may be too rich. I use miracle grow potting soil that has a balance of nitrogen in the soil.
Reply:you are watering the flowers to much
Reply:Needs feeding and probably does not have good drainage. Make sure there is drain holes in the bottom of the pot. Feed with Miracle grow, they love it and it will grow leaves back. Good Luck.
Reply:could be lack of sufficient light or water. Geraniums usually can tolerate a lot of neglect - they do best that way. If you fertilise too much you get leaves instead of flowers. your plant seems to b the opposite so I think it could be either the light situation or water.

hope that helps
Reply:I believe you are over-watering the poor thing.

What is the Atomic weight of geranium?

Germanium, atomic number 32, has an atomic weight of 72.64.

What is the Atomic weight of geranium?
Germanium (IPA: /dʒə(r)ˈmeɪniəm/) is a chemical element in the periodic table that has the symbol Ge and atomic number 32. This is a lustrous, hard, silver-white metalloid that is chemically similar to tin. Germanium forms a large number of organometallic compounds and is an important semiconductor material used in transistors.

What should I do when my geranium cuttings start to turn yellow please?

You should keep them in water until roots have begun to grow - so if your yellowing ones are potted up take them out, trim the end of the stem, remove seriously yellowed leaves, and put them in water. When roots have developed pot them again, if no roots develop within 2-3 weeks then discard. Healthy geranium cuttings are generally almost 100% success rate, but the yellowing suggests you might be better off starting again with fresh cuttings if you can.

What should I do when my geranium cuttings start to turn yellow please?
You may be over-watering them, or they might need fertilizer or iron, or they are kept too warm.
Reply:Cut the end of the stems off to freshen them up. Then place them in water with a little sugar and salt added. They will last much longer.
Reply:Go to the doctor?
Reply:Were you trying to root them and they turned yellow. Sometimes that just happens before they take root and then they will come back to life and spread. Some make it and some don't. I think if you put Vitamin B in the soil and just baby it, water it and put in the sun, it might just be ok. You will know later of course, but don't give up. If it gets really limp like it is going to die, then that might be too late, but if it just goes a little yellow but the stalk is still green, just leave it alone and will eventually be ok, it might take into the next season, but time will tell. They can really spread just from a cutting, so hang in there. Unfortunately, the snails like them and draw the snails, but you can put snail bate if you have no animals to protect with the bait as it is poison to animals, dogs, cats, etc., pets.
Reply:Things to consider:

Where were the cuttings taken from (leaf, twig, stem, root, old growth, new growth)?

Do you have a big cutting that can't get the nourishment it needs from the cut end? Shorten the stem or remove leaves low on the stem allowing more food to get to the upper, growing tips.

Is the water clean or getting moldy? Keep it clean.

Do not keep it too hot or too cold, room temp is ok.

Do not give it full sunlight, it can't use it now.

Too much fertilizer can kill a plant. If you must fertilize, use very little and use something with a high proportion of phosphorous (the second number)- it helps roots grow.

Sugar in the water might help. Vitamin B complex might help.

Salt in the water won't help.

Some plants root best if put in a damp medium such as peat moss or perlite. When roots form, do not try to remove the rooting medium, just place the soil with embedded roots into a more permanent pot. Roots need air too, so drowning them in water or very wet soil can kill even healthy roots.

Cacti have weak, sensitive roots that rot easily but I rooted a broken piece in damp perlite in a month or so.

The biggest mistake people make is "loving their plants to death" by giving them too much water or too much fertilizer. Too much of a good thing is not good.
Reply:cut them down and put indoors 4 the winter
Reply:give them more light

CAN THE SPENT FLOWER OF A GERANIUM BE SAVED AND PLANTED AS SEEDS FoR ANOTHER SEASON LIKE OTHER FLOWERS?

iIVE HAD THEM WINTER OVER IN THE HOUSE UNTIL FOLLOWING YEAR......BUT IF YOU CAN ALSO JUST SAVE THE OLD DEAD FLOWER AS YOU DO WITH OTHER ANNUAL PLANTS THAT WOULD BE GREAT....THANKS

CAN THE SPENT FLOWER OF A GERANIUM BE SAVED AND PLANTED AS SEEDS FoR ANOTHER SEASON LIKE OTHER FLOWERS?
umm if i understand the question correctly you want to "reproduce" geraniums? you need to take cutting of the plant and root them, using rooting compound helps a lot and is readily available in your local garden center.good luck
Reply:Yes you can but only IF the flowers set seeds. You can tell this by looking at the base of each little segment of the flower head and if it swollen then it has a seed.
Reply:You can certainly make another plant - it would be most easy to take a cutting. The seeds might be less likely to be successful.

The leaves on some of my geranium plants, now outdoors, have gone a bright red colour. Is this a problem?

It just means they are suffering from stress. Thsi usually happens in autumn as the temperature drops and the plant begins to shut down but I expect it's just a bit of a shock if they're just been put outdoors. They should get over it, make sure they don't stay too wet.

this has happened to mine, but they are still flowering, i just take the sickly looking leaves off...
Reply:no jus pick them off with thumb and forfinger.
Reply:This is a problem caused by wind, it will not harm the plant , dont worry.
Reply:It's the change of air, don't worry give them water and they will be fine.

I want to buy scented pelargoium/geranium plants. Please let me know where I can buy them in Singapore?

what

What is the reason my geranium leaves are going red (and some yellow)?

red leaves are caused by the temperature going colder than the geranium likes... it will signal a slowdown in energy... the plant will not produce blooms for a while... it will , in effect, pout........

yellow leaves are too much water.....

What is the reason my geranium leaves are going red (and some yellow)?
over watering / not enough sun

its not a problem, they are very tollerant of different conditions.... just take off the red / yellow leaves, or even cut off the whole section if its bad....

just make sure some green is left on it.... get it outside in the sun, and let it dry out a little... :-)

i'd appriciate you answering my question too :-)
Reply:geraniums don't like to be watered all the time. let them dry out in between, them give them a good dose of water, so it runs out the bottom. They might also need a slow release fertilizer.
Reply:Fluctuations in temperature, plus too much water. If they are in pots reduce water (Geraniums require very little water) and move them to a warmer/sheltered place.
